Moments of Hope: Invasion of Peace
Dec 18, 2025 • Pastor Andy Searles
During World War I, on Christmas Eve in 1914, something extraordinary and unplanned happened along parts of the Western Front. British and German soldiers, locked in brutal trench warfare, stopped fighting, sang Christmas carols across enemy lines, and cautiously stepped into No Man’s Land. They exchanged greetings, shared food, buried their dead, and in some places even kicked a football together. The truce lasted only a short time before the war resumed, but for one fragile, holy moment, peace broke through the violence — a powerful reminder that even in humanity’s darkest hours, the longing for peace and shared humanity remains.
